--------------------
After 54+ years of petting and pampering my purchased new 67 GTO, I feel it is time for someone, with as equal an enthusiasm for this iconic "MUSCLE CAR", to take the helm. As evident by the miles driven in the last 3 years since the restoration, I'm just not giving this GOAT the road time it needs and deserves. I would like for someone who can & will maintain and care for it, to enjoy it as I have for all these years.
HISTORY: Purchased new in October 1966, this GTO was my daily driver for the 1st 7 years. With a growing career and family, I had to move to a more suitable family car. The GTO was retired to the garage for the next 39+ years with very limited driving time. In 2012 I decided to rebuild rather than sell with a goal to bring the GOAT back to "as purchased condition" - not a "high end show car". I would handle the majority of the labor intensive task, with local restoration specialist taking on the heavy work. Taking longer than I planned (as it always does), the successful restoration was completed in late 2018.
RESTORATION SUMMARY: New PPG clear coat paint system duplicating the original Signet Gold color, new factory correct seamed vinyl top.- Exterior chrome/stainless steel trim restored.- Doors and window rubber & seals replaced. New loop pile carpet.- Aftermarket front shoulder restraint systems added.- Complete front-end suspension, steering, brakes (x4) rebuild.- Engine rebuild included 30 over bore, 10 under crank, GM "068" hydraulic camshaft grind (360 HP). Pertronix rev-limiter electronic ignition.- All engine accessory components were replaced.- New AC system including compressor through evap coil. The original compressor bypass system was upgraded to a more efficient compressor recycle system. Complete rework of AC system controls & heater/ventilation enclosure.- TH 400 Transmission rebuilt.- Rear end inspected, bearings and seals replaced. Driveshaft u-joints replaced.- New gas tank and sending unit.
PAST ISSUES/OPPORTUNITIES: With any 50+ year old car, there will be age deterioration and minor defects. To the best of myknowledge, there are no issues with this GTO other than the few described below.- Small paint chip on the right lip of the trunk opening.- In 1980, rust in the lower right corner of the front windshield, both corners of the rearwindow and around the tail light openings were repaired. Not uncommon for this car. No further issues for the last 41 years.- A new headliner would likely improve a judging score.- The emergency flasher selector, on the steering column, is missing the small dished endcover.- In 1971, the right rear quarter panel was victim to an anonymous parking lot scrape. This did not distract from the appearance, was not repaired until the 2018 restoration.- The seats and door panels are all original and in very good condition. As the driver's seat always has the most use, I elected to leave the seat bottom pleat separation as is which is unnoticeable.
An information package is included with this GTO including:- The documentation package from PHS.- The original Glove Box Owners Manual.- Laminated copy of original window sticker.- Over 2000 photos & video of rebuild work on a personal thumb drive.- Electronic copy of GM Service Manual & GM Fisher BODY Manual- Several new & old spare parts.- Copy of the original Bill Of Sale (on request).
Although I have tried my best to describe the actual superior condition of this GTO, any potential buyer should complete his own personal inspection to determine in his own opinion the condition of this well preserved & restored GOAT.
