Al Perlman saw a dynamic future for passenger rail in lightweight streamlined trains. The New York Central's Xplorer brought that vision to life. Unfortunately, the train did not live up to expectations and it's time on the Central was short lived. But the concept and vision had merit and the train's dramatic form and color scheme remain an inviting look into the potential of rail travel even today. So what if the New York Central kept the concept but applied it to conventional equipment? This great new set Xplores that idea, using our RF16 Baldwin shark and 21" ACF coaches to recreate a "heavyweight" Xplorer consist. Could the smoother ride and known maintenance needs of the conventional equipment combined with the pricing and service of the original train have been the answer Perlman wanted? It can be on your railroad!
