On September 1, 2020, the St. Louis Cardinals visited the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park. Kwang Hyun Kim started for the Cardinals, while Sonny Gray went for the Reds. In the top of the fifth, Tyler Thornburg replaced Archie Bradley on the mound. Kolten Wong led off with a double. Tommy Edman walked to the plate. He worked the count to 2-2. On the fifth pitch, Thornburg HELD THIS BALL IN HIS HAND!! He threw an 84 mph changeup, and EDMAN DRIVE THIS BALL 356 FEET TO LINE OUT TO SHOGO AKIYAMA IN CF!! (Yes, that means Akiyama also touched this ball!!) Wong tagged up and moved to third. This ball was then retired. The Cardinals went on to win 16-2 behind hits by Wong, Edman, Paul Goldschmidt, Andrew Knizner, Brad Miller (who had 7 RBI!), Paul DeJong, Yadier Molina, Matt Carpenter, Dexter Fowler, Tyler O’Neill, and Lane Thomas.
