MLB Authenticated - Whit Merrifield Single Off Kyle Hendricks - 2020 Season. Shipped with USPS Priority Mail. Let’s answer the obvious question: Yes, that is grass from Wrigley Field embedded in this ball. On August 4, 2020, the Kansas City Royals visited the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. Brady Singer started for the Royals, while Kyle Hendricks was on the mound for the Cubs. The Royals got hits from Salvador Perez, Ryan McBroom, Adalberto Mondesi, Alex Gordon, Maikel Franco, Bubba Starling, and Whit Merrifield (more on that later), but fell to the Cubs 5-4, who had hits from Anthony Rizzo, Kyle Schwarber, Wilson Contreras, Jason Heyward, Victor Caratini, Albert Almora, and Jason Kipnis. In the top of the fifth, Bubba Starling led off with a single. Whit Merrifield came to bat. HENDRICKS HELD THIS BALL IN HIS HAND!! Hendricks threw a four-seamer for a strike. (Yes, this means Willson Contreras also touched this ball!!) He followed that with a curveball that Merrifield nicked for a foul. (Obviously, the foul didn’t go out of play else Kendricks would never have gotten this ball back.) On the third pitch WITH THIS BALL, Hendricks threw a sinker that MERRIFIELD LINED TO JASON HEYWARD IN RF FOR A SINGLE!! Starling moved to third. Starling eventually scored on a sac fly by Jorge Soler, but Whitfield ended up out when Ryan O’Hearn grounded into a double play. This ball is MLB Authenticated for all three pitches from Hendricks to Merrifield, including Merrifield’s foul and single. The ball has grass blade embedded in it. [Please note that this ball does not come with a case, so I cannot guarantee that the grass blade stays intact during shipping. I will secure the ball in a ziplock bag and surround it in bubble wrap to reduce any risk that the blade comes loose.] Thank you for purchasing!!
